Mission Statement

BalanceSCC (Balance Santa Cruz County) enriches the lives of people with unique needs through compassionate care solutions, collaborative giving, and community.

What we do

Compassionate Care Solutions

BalanceSCC partners with schools and families to provide flexible person-centered care solutions to people with unique needs in classrooms, after school programs, and homes. We offer flexible scheduling and coordinate coverage for absences, relieving the burden of care logistics from schools and families and, most importantly, we work to ensure our team members are the right fit personally and professionally with the clients they serve.

Collaborative Giving

BalanceSCC facilitates giving from community members to classrooms and donates free training directly to schools. Our giving combats the inadequate resources for students with unique needs and empowers teachers to innovate in their classrooms.

The BalanceSCC Teacher Grant Program:

Every year in the fall BalanceSCC accepts applications directly from teachers and service providers for the supplies they need - but cannot afford - to support students with unique needs. BalanceSCC raises approximately $25,000 from the community every year to support this effort, helping the community to support its teachers.

Free Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training for Schools (TCIS):

The TCIS training program for school staff presents a crisis prevention and intervention model designed to teach staff how to help children learn constructive ways to handle crisis. BalanceSCC funds free initial and ongoing TCIS trainings for schools in Santa Cruz County every summer. To date, we have trained over a hundred local educators.

Community

Friendship and fellowship are key parts of a good life, and they help young people develop the skills they need to be successful and contributing members of their work places and communities. BalanceSCC runs an after-school program for children and a day program for adults to provide equitable access to friendships and community for young people with unique needs.
